About the St. Margaret's Bay Breakers Swim Team.

The St. Margaret's Bay Breakers Summer Swim Team is a competitive swim team for ages 5 years to 18 years old for families in the St. Margaret's Bay and surrounding areas. We are part of the Swim Nova Scotia's summer swimming program. During our 10-week summer swim program, we practice out of the St. Margaret’s Centre outdoor pool.

Although we are a competitive swim group, we are a family-friendly team, encouraging our kids to be active, have fun and meet their own goals.  We support our swimmers and their families to ensure all kids have a positive swim team experience. We follow Swim Nova Scotia’s Long Term Athlete Development Model.

Summer swim practice is 4 mornings and 4 evening a week, with Swim Competitions taking place on weekends. You can go to what you want when you want. The Breakers host a Fun Meet each summer and Nova Scotia Swim Provincials take place in August as the final event for the year.

Swimmer Requirements

We suggest that a swimmer has at least level 5-6 Swim Kids, but it is assessed on an individual basis. Off season Future Breakers is a great option for those starting out!

2017 Breakers Summer Swim Team

here is how it all started...

The St. Margaret's Bay Breakers Swim Team started with a discussion in Lee Hopkins' kitchen  when Cathy Sutherland, Lee Hopkins and Tina Walsh knew their children loved to swim but had already completed all the Red Cross levels there were! They also knew there were other children in the community just like theirs who would benefit from a swim team. They contacted Swim Nova Scotia and started the process. They agonized over the name for a few days, created a logo and the rest, they say, is history.      Breakers 1989

Off Season Training

During the fall and spring season, we swim in 10-week sessions leading up to the summer program.  The Centennial Pool is currently our off-season home. This is an optional opportunity for existing members and for new swimmers wanting to “get in the race”.  The Future Breakers program is a terrific introduction to summer swimming.

Swim Instruction and Coaching

Our Coaching staff consists of 1 Head Coach and 1 Assistant Coach.  They provide instruction to all age groups for the competitive swimming environment.
